What are staff-to-child ratios?
Staff-to-child ratios define the maximum number of children a single caregiver can supervise at any given time. Every U.S. state sets its own requirements through childcare licensing regulations, and ratios vary by age group because younger children require more individualized attention and care.
For example, a ratio of 1:4 means one adult for every four children. If you have 9 children in that age group, you need a minimum of 3 staff members (since 9 divided by 4 rounds up to 3).
