Staff-to-child ratios are a core licensing requirement for every childcare center. Neztio automatically calculates your ratio based on the number of checked-in children and assigned staff, updating in real time.

How Ratios Are Calculated

Neztio divides the number of checked-in children by the number of staff currently assigned to the classroom. The result is compared against the ratio limit you set for that classroom's age group.

  • Green: You are within your required ratio. No action needed.
  • Yellow: You are approaching the limit. Consider adding staff.
  • Red: You have exceeded the ratio. Immediate action is required.

Setting Ratio Limits

  1. 1Go to Classrooms and select a classroom.
  2. 2Click Edit Classroom.
  3. 3Under Ratio Settings, enter the maximum children per staff member.
  4. 4Click Save.

Check your state's licensing requirements for the correct ratios. Common ratios are 1:4 for infants, 1:6 for toddlers, and 1:10 for preschool.

Dashboard Ratio Indicators

The admin dashboard shows ratio indicators on each room card. Rooms that are out of ratio display attention pills so you can spot compliance issues at a glance. Keep the dashboard open throughout the day to monitor ratios as children are checked in and out.

Ratio monitoring depends on accurate staff assignments. If a teacher moves to another room, update their assignment so ratios reflect reality.
