In this article

The food library is your center's database of food items used in meal planning. Each item includes its name, CACFP component category, and allergen information. Building a complete food library makes menu planning faster and more consistent.

Adding a Food Item

  1. 1Go to Meals > Food Library.
  2. 2Click Add Item.
  3. 3Enter the food name (e.g., "Whole Wheat Bread", "Apple Slices").
  4. 4Select the CACFP component group (Grain, Meat/Alternate, Vegetable, Fruit, Milk).
  5. 5Check any allergens present in this item (Milk, Eggs, Peanuts, Tree Nuts, Wheat, Soy, Fish, Shellfish).
  6. 6Click Save.

Using the Food Library

When creating meal menus, you can search the food library to quickly add items. The library automatically categorizes items by component group and flags any allergen matches for children in the classroom.

Populate your food library before creating your first menu. Having all your common items pre-loaded makes weekly menu planning a quick process.
