Turning AI features on and off

In this article

Every AI feature in Neztio can be switched off. Nothing is forced on your center, and nothing about a child is processed by AI until a guardian has given permission for that specific child. This article covers where each control lives and who is allowed to change it.

The three levels of control

  • Center master switch: one toggle that turns every AI feature off at once.
  • Per-feature toggles: keep some AI features and switch off the ones you do not want.
  • Family AI permissions: recorded per child, and off until a guardian grants them.

The levels stack. A feature runs only if the master switch is on, that feature's own toggle is on, and, for anything involving a specific child, that child's family permission has been granted.

The center master switch

Go to Settings and find the AI group. The first toggle, AI features, is the master switch for the whole center: the assistant, briefings, report drafts, message help, and photo captions. Turning it off stops all of them immediately for everyone at the center.

Turning individual features on or off

Below the master switch, each feature has its own toggle so you can keep the ones you find useful and switch off the rest.

  • AI assistant: the Ask AI chat for directors and managers, for center data questions and how-to help.
  • Daily briefing: the AI morning brief on your dashboard and the weekly summary email.
  • Report drafts and daily stories: AI drafts for daily report cards and the daily story parents see.
  • Message help: rewrite suggestions, reply drafts, and voice logging.
  • AI photo captions: caption drafts for classroom photos. This one also requires per-child guardian consent.

If a toggle shows Upgrade to unlock instead of switching, that feature is not included in your current plan.

Family AI permissions, recorded per child

Open a child's profile and find the Family AI permissions section. There are two separate permissions, and each one can be granted or withdrawn on its own.

  • AI-assisted daily updates: lets Neztio help teachers draft that child's daily updates. Teachers review every update before it is shared.
  • AI photo caption suggestions: lets Neztio suggest captions for that child's photos. The photo is processed without the child's name or location.

Both permissions start off. This is deliberate: Neztio will not process a child's information with AI until a guardian has said yes and your center has recorded it. Silence is never treated as consent, and a missing enrollment record or missing permission is treated as a no.

If AI is switched on but nothing is happening

The most common reason is that family permissions have not been recorded yet. Center-wide features such as the assistant and the daily briefing will work as soon as they are switched on, but anything that touches an individual child stays inactive for that child until a guardian grants permission. Ask families for permission first, then record it on each child's profile.

Who can change these settings

  • Center AI settings, including the master switch and the per-feature toggles: center administrators.
  • Family AI permissions on a child's profile: managers and above. Staff below manager can see the permissions but cannot change them.
  • Every permission change is recorded with who made it and when, because consent is a record your licensor may ask to see.

What AI never does

  • It never publishes anything on its own. AI drafts, a person reviews and sends.
  • It never processes a child's information without that child's family permission.
  • Photos sent for captioning are processed without the child's name or location attached.
  • You can withdraw either permission at any time, and it takes effect immediately.
